Tutorials/Galacticraft Getting Started Guide
Now, before you get into space, you need lots of preparation.
Setting Up
You can't go into space without the mod installed! You will need to download:
- 1.5.1 Forge Recommended Build
- 1.5.1 Basic Components
- 1.5.1 Galacticraft
(It helps to use some other addons for Basic Components to make the gameplay easier.) Once you have all of these mods, follow the steps to install each of the mods. When you have installed them, and your Minecraft loads up and doesn't crash, you may start your adventure to space!
Getting Started
I am assuming that you are on your second to fifth day and have established a decent supply post/base. If you're going to try to go to the moon on the first day, you are pathetic. Be reasonable at least! Anyway, the best (and most obvious way to get resources) is to go mining. Let's go mining. While you are mining, you should find some of the vanilla ores that you need:
- Iron Ore
- Redstone Dust
- Diamond
as well as some new ores:
- Copper Ore
- Tin Ore
Once these materials are in abundance, you may start crafting the materials needed to go into space!
Crafting
The first things you need to craft are actually from the Basic Components mod, but they are very important. First off, you need a wrench. Sounds a little basic right? Well, machines in the mod do not want to cooperate in any way with you when it comes to the direction you are placing them in, so you will need a wrench to rotate them manually. The recipe requires 4 steel ingots placed in this fashion:
You're probably wondering, "How in the world do I make steel?" Now, in order to make steel, you first need to make steel dust. The recipe varies whether or not you have Mekanism, but if you don't, here is the recipe. You need 1 iron ingot and 4 pieces of coal to make one steel dust. Now you need to smelt the steel dust in your furnace to make a steel ingot:
You might want to make quite a few of these. They are definitely a bit expensive, but you will need a lot of these in the future. Now that you can rotate any electronics that you place down, you will need to craft a battery box, which is just like any battery box in RP or IC2 or whatever. There are actually two recipes, but I recommend using the cheaper one that requires 3 batteries and 6 steel ingots:
Now in order to make a battery for your battery box, you need 5 tin ingots, one redstone dust, and one piece of coal:
Batteries are also capable of storing energy, so craft some extra ones when you need to bring power to outer space.
Now place down the battery box until the red hole in the battery box is rotated to where you want the input
